This time of year is wonderful for many reasons: Christmas cookies, twinkling lights, trees, presents, and time with family and friends all make the list. Beyond all that, one of my favorite things about this time of year is reflecting. What adventures did I take this year? Did I make new discoveries during my day-to-day? Did I take the time to notice little things around me? How did I respond when things didn’t go as planned? Did I reach my goals? Did I celebrate small victories? Was I intentional with friendships? Did I learn anything new? And on, and on…
After asking myself all the questions, and taking the time to reflect, I think about the new year. How do I want it to be different? How can I be better in all areas of life: a better wife, friend, trail runner, business owner, author, illustrator, etc.? What adventures do I want to go on? What do I want to learn? There is always more to learn. There is always time for adventure and ways to discover new things in the day-to-day, it starts with shifting the mindset to recognize these things.
Take a lesson from my niece, who held up an orange slice and said, “Mom, take a picture of this so I can remember how beautiful it is.”
Notice the details and beauty in the every day things!
This year was a busy one for Baby Ranger Books! I redesigned the covers of all of my books to better match the market. I started selling in multiple retail locations. Thank You to Redwood Parks Conservancy, Crater Lake Natural History Association, and Crescent City & Del Norte County Chamber of Commerce! It has been fantastic working with them this year, and knowing that many more little hands are holding my books and learning about nature because of it! Another big task was changing my website for a better overall experience. Now it is easy to search for books by park, read the book descriptions, take a look inside, and see the illustrations. (Go check it out – click around!) Last but not least, I released two coloring books and 1ā¢2ā¢3 EVERGLADES.
Planning for 2024 has been exciting! There are going to be fun things happening. The first is going to be MORE book releases …..āABC Crater Lake will be launching in January and, well… I’ll save the next park announcement for a later post š Second, I am planning on bringing you along on my journey a bit more – what does it take to create a book? What am I learning? What illustrations am I working on? Where do I work on illustrations? I am planning for more sneak peeks, inside looks, and fun facts along the way. There is way more planned, but I cannot share all of the excitement in one paragraph. For now, it is time to sit back, relax, and enjoy time with family and friends.
