Baby Ranger meets Thule (too-lee) Otter!

Have you ever visited a city or small town that had artistically painted sculptures throughout the streets or in local businesses? They are so fun to see! Back in 2019 (before Baby Ranger Books) I was asked to submit artwork for an otter sculpture that would be on display. Living in Northern California, this public art initiative was launched to promote healthy habitats for the river otter.

The design I submitted – Thule the Traveling Otter –

My design was selected and I picked up a naked 3’ tall otter sculpture to paint. This was way outside my comfort zone having never painted anything like this before… it is good to get outside that comfort zone ever so often!

Over the course of a few months I painted…and painted…
and turned this otter into a work of art.
– Thule the Adventure Otter –
Complete with a backpack covered in patches promoting being a
good steward of nature, and pockets full of snacks.
(Snacks are a must… never leave home without snacks!)

Having the otters displayed in local businesses was put on hold during 2020… so here we are summer 2021 and all 108 otters (each painted by local artists) are displayed throughout the northern coastal counties in California. > See them here : https://otterart.humboldt.edu/ <

Since painting my otter in 2019, I started Baby Ranger Books! So why not merge the two into a fun, special edition Baby Ranger Book for Redwood National and State Parks?!?! I drew a quick illustration of my little otter friend… and COLORS: REDWOODS *special edition* was created.

LET THE ADVENTURES BEGIN!
